About GymFinder India
A gym directory that would rather show you a smaller honest number than a bigger fake one.
Why this exists
Search for a gym in an Indian locality and you get pages that were generated, not written: a city name swapped into a template, a list of businesses lifted from somewhere else, a star rating from nowhere, and a phone number that may or may not still ring. What you never get is the one thing you actually want to know before you walk in — what it is going to cost.
GymFinder does the opposite trade. The listings are smaller in number, because they come from OpenStreetMap and nothing else, and the map under-counts. But every field on every listing is real, and every city page carries a fee table that tells you what a budget, mid-range and chain gym in that size of city actually charges monthly, quarterly and annually — with the arithmetic shown and the ranges labelled as ranges.
The rules this site holds itself to
- No scraped data. Ever. Open data or nothing.
- No invented phone number, opening time, rating or fee for a named gym. If the source does not have it, the page does not show it.
- Fee figures are city-level researched ranges, dated and labelled, never a quote.
- No paid placement, no sponsored listings, no "featured gym". There is nothing to buy.
- No page exists purely to match a search phrase. An area with two mapped gyms does not get a page.
Who runs it
GymFinder India is built and maintained by Amit Sharma, a marketer based in Auckland, New Zealand, as one of a family of free data tools published at amit.marketing. It is funded by advertising and by links to my own fitness programme, PeakForm. No gym has ever paid for anything here, and the day one does, the site is worthless.
Corrections
Data corrections outrank everything else. Send them in — or fix them at source in OpenStreetMap, which is better still.
